Sporting Hip & Groin is a two-day, clinically focused and highly practical workshop designed to help practitioners better understand, assess and manage one of the most complex regions in sport: the hip and groin.
The groin region accounts for a significant proportion of sports injuries, while the hip is frequently implicated in lumbo-pelvic and thigh-related problems. This course provides a clear clinical framework for understanding these presentations, improving differential diagnosis and building effective treatment, loading and Return to Play strategies.
The course connects current evidence, consensus statements and clinical reasoning with real-world sporting practice. It is built around four key pillars of learning, evaluation and prescription:
- Structure
- Function
- Movement
- Metabolism
Across two intensive days, participants will explore anatomy, biomechanics, pathology, assessment, strength diagnostics, movement analysis, capacity-based testing, loading progressions and Return to Play decision-making.
WORKSHOP FOCUS POINTS
- Differential diagnosis of hip and groin-related pain
- Clinical reasoning in complex hip, groin, lumbo-pelvic and thigh presentations
- Anatomy and muscle architecture of the hip and groin region
- Biomechanics of the hip and groin in life and sport
- Assessment of adductor, pubic joint, abdominal and hip joint pathologies
- Strength diagnostics, movement and capacity-based assessment
- Early, intermediate and advanced loading strategies
- Exercise selection for hip and groin rehabilitation and performance
- Return to Play criteria for hip and groin injuries
- Post-op FAIS protocols and muscle injury RTS paradigms
- Manual therapy and soft tissue treatment considerations
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This workshop is ideal for practitioners working with athletes and active populations, especially those involved in injury assessment, rehabilitation, physical preparation and Return to Play.
- Physiotherapists
- Rehab Professionals
- Strength & Conditioning Coaches
- Sports Medicine Practitioners
- Athletic Trainers
- Sport Scientists
- Performance Specialists
- Team Sport Coaches
- Students in physiotherapy, sports science or performance-related fields
WHAT YOU WILL GAIN
By the end of the workshop, participants will gain a practical framework for assessing and treating hip and groin-related problems in sporting populations.
You will learn how to:
- Better understand the anatomy, structure and function of the hip and groin region
- Differentiate between common clinical presentations and pathological regions
- Apply clinical reasoning to complex hip and groin cases
- Use strength, movement and capacity assessments to guide decision-making
- Build progressive loading strategies from early-stage rehab to advanced sporting function
- Understand Return to Play criteria for hip and groin injuries
- Apply concepts from elite sport into daily clinical and performance practice
DAY 1 – STRUCTURE, FUNCTION, MOVEMENT & DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS
Day 1 focuses on the foundations of hip and groin assessment. The course begins with detailed anatomy and muscle architecture, then moves into natural and sporting biomechanics of the region.
Participants will explore how structure, function and movement influence pathology, assessment and diagnosis. The day will progressively cover adductor, pubic joint, abdominal and hip joint pathologies, supported by practical assessment sessions.

PRACTICAL COMPONENT
This is a strongly practical course. Participants will be required to assess and treat fellow participants during practical sessions.
Please bring shorts and wear appropriate clothing for movement, assessment and hands-on work.
There will be a large exercise component, as well as manual therapy and soft tissue treatment aspects. If you have any physical limitations or concerns, please notify the tutor.
